Chapter Meeting - Feb. 22nd - Beyond Agile Hype: It's About The Principles

In late February the IIBA Winnipeg will continue to explore the new world of Agile methodology. Join us to explore Agile from a different way of thinking:

Speaker: Claudio Sousa, Integrationworx Ltd.

Overview: Beyond Agile Hype: It's About The Principles
"We are using mostly waterfall with a bit of Agile" was a phrase I heard around the boardroom table once that made me realize that the hype of Agile methods had reached a level of superficial "branding". It was as if agility was a form of seasoning you could sprinkle on your method to make it look more appealing. It was not soon after that I noticed software products being labeled with the prefix or suffix of "Agile", possibly because their creators sought to enable Agility or, most likely, just to sound good.

In this session, we will refocus on the fundamental principles of the Agile Manifesto, cut through the hype, and explain them in practical terms.  We'll understand these principles by highlighting stereotypical ant-patterns and we'll examine organizational barriers that are extremely tough to change which impact your ability to apply Agile principles. A simple self-check scorecard will help you analyze your organization's readiness for change and current level of agility.

Speaker Profile:
Claudio Sousa has 20 years of IT experience and has been applying/teaching object-oriented analysis and design as well as database modelling/design and business intelligence since 1996. He has considerable experience helping IT organization adopt and change software development processes and techniques.  Recent work on applying Agile principles and practices in large organizations has given Claudio an appreciation for the challenges.  Claudio Sousa is a Principal Consultant with Integrationworx Ltd., a consulting firm specializing in BI/DW with offices in Winnipeg and Calgary.
